ARGH

I managed to rip one of my contact lenses as soon as I got into work today. It hurts a lot. So I pulled up the web directory of eye doctors that take our insurance. Hopefully the place will give me a pair of sample lenses to use for today. I'd like to be able to see without tons of pain. This is when eyes just totally suck.

The aftermath

Well, the elections are over. I'm sure some people will be needing hair loss products to help them recover. Some of the results didn't turn out quite like I hoped but I will try to stay positive. Perhaps things will get better now. Luckily, a distraction is coming just in time. At midnight tonight (technically 12:01 tomorrow morning), the Kinect debuts. I'm not sure if my husband is picking it up tonight or tomorrow. This is how I plan on spending most of my weekend. Dance Central, baby!

Election Day

Today is Election Day. Most people only go out to vote for the presidential election. However, this election is much more important. Today is when we elect our congressmen and local politicians. (I know in PA we're voting for a new governor!) So, please, if you are registered to vote, turn off your computer (the lipofuze reviews will still be there when you come back) and take some time to voice your opinion. It really does count!

Spending less on food

I keep reading these stories about families completing their food shopping for mere dollars each month. They clip a lot of coupons and take advantage of sales but I wonder what their diet really consists of. I can't imagine there being a ton of coupons for fresh fruits or vegetables. Sometimes there are sales on bananas or apples when they are in season but there isn't a whole lot of fresh produce on sale during the winter months. Are they living off of Hungry Man dinners or something? Does anyone out there have experience saving tons of money on food with coupons or whatever?

It's November!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween. I know my daughter came away with quite a haul. (I shall try to keep away from the candy and the fat burner reviews.) She was dressed as the Mad Hatter and my cousin joined her as Alice. They made quite a cute pair. Maybe this will be the new Halloween tradition! Now I just have to wait for my birthday! November is such a cool month ;)

Crazy weather

Today's high was about 78. Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the mid-50s. It would have been nice to have a warm Halloween. Last year it rained, which was sucked. The year before that was on the cold side. I wonder if I could figure out how to walk around wrapped in an electric blanket. Do they make those with batteries now? That would be awesome. Awesomely warm. I hate the cold but I hate it more when the weather can't make up its mind.

Rock Band 3

My husband picked up Rock Band 3 the other day. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to play it much. Not to mention that I've had some throat wackiness for the past week, which makes it very difficult to sing. However, I did manage to croak through a few songs Tuesday night. The character creation is OK, but a lot of the default faces are just plain ugly. You need to do a bit of tweaking on the cheeks and jawline to get any sort of prettiness out of them. (At least for the girls. I didn't try to create a male character.) After you finish making your character, each player gets to make their own band. This gives each individual player goals to reach with their band. It also means that each player gets their own rewards. Instead of needing money to purchase upgrades, you win them by playing various gigs. You also get to pick the "stand in" computer players for your band, if you don't have anyone to play with you. (My husband's favorite is Moosejaw - the homeless man that needs to put down the guitar and find some construction employment or something.) I think this makes the whole band experience a lot better.

I've only played the vocals so far. In my opinion, the vocals have gotten a lot better since RB2. I believe they have keyed some of the songs up a bit so they aren't really low anymore. This is awesome for me because I always have problems hitting the very very low notes. (Yes, you can sing an octave up but that sounds wrong.) They've also changed the way spoken words are handled. Well, it's not a huge change. Mostly a visual one. Instead of "notes" to speak, it just shadows that whole section to give you more time to hit the beat.

My husband picked up the keytar yesterday. I plan on finding some time to play around with that so you'll definitely hear more about the new Rock Band in the future!

So tired

Why is it only Wednesday? And why is today going so slowly? I'm ready for the exit signs pointing to the end of the week. Not that this weekend will be dull. I have to drop my car off for inspection Friday night. They'll work on it Saturday. (Let's all hope everything is fine and it won't cost a ton.) Then Sunday is Trick-or-Treating. As always, it takes forever to get costumes ready. I need a vacation!

Decorating for the holidays

Every year, the former controller at work would put fresh wreathes on the doors around the office. However, she is no longer with the company. Should I take some initiative to make the place look nice for the upcoming holidays? On one hand, they are pretty. On the other hand, I hate doing stuff like that because it is so much clean-up. Especially for the live ones. The pine needles fall all over the place and make such a mess. Do you think the fake ones will look just as nice?
