Kinect

It has now been awhile since we purchased the Kinect. I have to say that the entire family enjoys it a lot. While there are some buggy games out there (I'm looking at you, Zumba), if you do your research ahead of time, many of the games are tons of fun. My daughter's favorite is Kinect Adventures, which comes with the system. To be specific, she likes the Rallyball mini-game. It's a lot like Racquetball but your hand is the racquet. The goal is to use the balls to break boxes. You hit the balls with various parts of your body. It is a pretty interesting game. My favorite is Dance Central. Then again, I really like to dance. The moves are easy enough for anyone to pick up and you still get a decent workout from it. I haven't tried the harder levels yet. I'm working my way up to it.

I'm sad that there are developers throwing out buggy games for the Kinect. I really wanted to play the Zumba game. However, everything that I have read about it says it is terrible. C'mon guys, this is an awesome system. Take the time to develop the game properly before throwing it out there. The users will love you much more for it!

Can I have a nap now?

I hope all the people that celebrated Thanksgiving this weekend had a nice one. Mine was extremely busy. I wasn't sitting around browsing web directories or even out in the stores doing Black Friday shopping. We visited both our families on Thursday and Friday. Then Saturday was filled with our normal Saturday classes. (I have Zumba and my daughter has swimming.) Then there were errands to be run. It was tiring! And it doesn't look like it will get any better until after the holidays. December is such an exhausting month.

Zumba results

Since I was so sick last week, I completely forgot to post the results of my 6-week (plus one class) Zumba "diet." In the seven weeks that I cut high fructose corn syrup out of my diet and went to Zumba class once a week, I lost a total of 12 1/2 pounds. Granted, I probably gained a few of those back last week when I spent the entire week zombified on the couch. However, I have now upped my exercise regimen to two Zumba classes per week and I walk on the treadmill at work when I have some spare time at lunch. (That usually ends up to be about 15 minutes per day, four days per week.) I'm still trying to keep the HFCS out of my food. With any luck, I'll be down a total of 20 pounds by the end of the year. No need for the best weight loss pills for women for me! Good ol' exercise will do the trick. I'll be sure to give you another update at the end of the year.

Favorite Friday

I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been sick all week. No dance class, no Zumba...not even any video games. But I'm on my way back to 100%. With any luck, I'll be back to my awesome self by Monday. Until then, here is the trailer for the new Harry Potter movie that just opened.

Rehab

I don't know if I've talked about this here before. My father is an alcoholic. He has been my entire life. So I always have mixed feelings when I hear about someone going into rehab for alcohol detox. On one hand, it has worked for a lot of people. On the other hand, I've watched my father fail time and time again in rehab. It feels like it's such a waste of time and money. I guess I should try to be more supportive and open minded to the whole experience. It has to do some good for someone, right?

Christmas postcards

Every year I think about sending out Christmas cards. Every year I suck and never get around to it. This year I was thinking about doing something different. Instead of doing cards, I could do some custom postcard printing. I'll have to look into the cost of that though. But it might be interesting, right? Or would that be too impersonal? ACK!
