Glee

I know I am way behind everyone on this. My husband, my daughter, and I have started watching Glee on Netflix. They only have the first season up and we're about halfway through it now. I get why so many people like it. Not only is the music pretty good, it's also catchy and most people recognize the songs. Unfortunately, that is the only good thing about the show. The characters are annoyingly two-dimensional, which doesn't leave a whole lot for the actors to do between songs. Supposedly the glee club "needed" 12 members in order to participate in competitions. However, half of them are barely there. One of the characters is even referred to as "Other Asian." If you're going to bring in new characters, at least use them. In addition, the "plot" is only there to carry the characters to their next musical interlude. Almost everything in the show is based on lies and trickery. It would be nice if the show didn't use music as a crutch. Let the characters carry the plot. There are some great beginnings there. Stop forcing them into song just because they haven't sang for 10 minutes.

Even though I will continue to watch the show, I can't guarantee that I will ever actually like it. It's too big of a hit for them to make any changes to it now. And that is rather sad.

Yay weekend!

Yay! It's the weekend! And, for once, it's supposed to be pretty nice. It's been raining for the past few weekends. According to the (usually unreliable) weatherman, it's not going to be too hot and no rain! I have some Zumba-related things to do but at least some of that will be outside. I'll be in the sun, away from small business phone systems and the slew of customers that just hit 0 instead of selecting one of the options on our phone tree. I'm so glad it's the weekend.

No more daytime tv!

I really do hate daytime television. There is rarely anything good on and they bombard you with a variety of commercials from different companies selling the same things. Three or four different schools that will license you to be a medical assistant or auto mechanic or massage therapist. Multiple companies claiming they have the cheap car insurance quote around. Not to mention all the lawyers trying to get you to sue for accidents or medical problems. I usually only turn the tv on in the afternoon to just have some noise while I'm doing something else. Man, is it annoying noise.

Royal Doormats?

I didn't watch the royal wedding this morning. One, I'm not getting up that early and, two, I still had to come to work. We don't get a holiday for a wedding. A couple of the girls at work were looking at pictures from the event though. The couple looked very nice. Of course, I start thinking about unusual things. The last I heard, the couple would be temporarily living in William's apartment that he shares with his brother, Harry, until they figure out where they want to live. Would someone get them some doormats personalized online that say things like 'One Prince, One Duke, and a Duchess'? (For those that don't know, Prince William was given the title of Duke of Cambridge, which would make Kate a Duchess.) I should see what sort of weird "collectibles" are popping up online now. Everyone wants something to remember the event.

A newish couch

I absolutely hate my couch. Besides being terribly uncomfortable, it's also ugly. Unfortunately, it was the only thing we could afford at the time. (That means it was a hand-me-down from my in-laws.) We can't afford to get a new one yet but maybe I could at least get some designer upholstery fabric to make it less ugly. I could probably make a slip cover for it. Ooh, maybe I could make some big fluffy cushions or something too. A new-old couch!

Cell Phones vs Landlines

An interesting problem has popped up in my area of the world. Many people have ditched their landlines in favor of solely using their cell phones. We do this at my house. Each of us has a cell phone so we got rid of the unnecessary landline. Recently, a woman woke up and found her house was on fire. She called 9-1-1 and accidentally gave them the wrong address. (She gave them her previous address.) It took the firefighters seven minutes to find the correct house. The woman died of carbon monoxide poisoning a short time later. If she had called on a landline, her address would have popped up on the dispatcher's screen. However, she called on a cell phone so they didn't have an address beyond the one she gave. It hampered the emergency medical assistance personnel from saving her life. Of course, the emergency people recommend having a landline for these situations. I think it might be better if their system could be updated with addresses attached to cell phone numbers. No one is going to pay for a phone line just in case of an emergency. Even if they did, most people would just reach for their cell phone anyway.

Supplies can be funny!

I'm the one in charge of ordering office products at my day job. Recently, I ordered a few things and they arrived today. First, when I opened the box, I found the little container of pencil lead wrapped in a separate bag all by itself. I thought this was weird. Second, I ordered a new chair for one of the new employees. I delivered the box to his office then spent the next few minutes chuckling over the fact that he has to assemble it. (He did ask for this specific chair and he did know that it had to be assembled....I still found it funny.) Usually my supply orders are boring. This was a nice change.

More Zumba Thoughts

This kinda goes along with my last post. If I start my own business, would it be a good idea to get an online business degree? I don't need it to be all "Hey! I have a business degree!" as much as I could probably use the information they'd give me. It would, most likely, be a lot cheaper than taking an offline class. I would just need to find a good school that would give me a good basis in the business world.

Zumba Stuff

Lately I've been thinking about where I want to take this Zumba thing. I know I've only been teaching for a month but I also know that I need to plan any changes way in advance. There's a company that is opening franchises in my general area (not my immediate area but PA in general) and I've been pondering if that is something I'd want to do. I'm just not sure if a franchise is the right choice. This place claims to help you with the start-up costs, which I imagine come in the form of an easy personal loan or something. Since I don't have $10,000 to throw at it right now, it might be easier...but it might end up putting me in a lot of debt too. Ahh....decisions... At least I have plenty of time to think about it.
