Confession: I used to be a smoker. I started when I was about 16 years old in high school. I quit when I moved in with my then-boyfriend-now-husband when I was about 22 or 23 years old. Since then, I've found all types of smoking to be pretty gross. Smoking used to be a big stress reliever for me so I tried the electronic cigarettes, pipes, even some cigar brands but I didn't like any of them. Now I just try to get massages on a regular basis. It doesn't always help the daily stress but it does help get rid of pent-up stress. And it doesn't make me stink like smoking does.
HTC EVO 4G LTE
After three years, my Samsung Galaxy cell phone began to fail. It would freeze whenever I'd try to do two things at once. For example, if I was calling someone and I received a text at the same time, the whole phone would freeze and I'd have to remove the battery. Then the screen started to flip out when I opened apps. Check my email - static. So we picked up a new phone for me on Friday. I thought about upgrading to the new Galaxy. My husband has the HTC EVO 4G LTE and, after a bit of research, I realized that the phones were pretty similar. I originally got the Galaxy because it had a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Apparently I am a dying breed and keyboards on smartphones are almost impossible to find. The woman at Sprint did offer me a Motorola that had the keyboard but I had already decided on the HTC.
So far, I'm liking the HTC. Everything seems to move a bit faster than it did on my Galaxy. (I am taking into consideration that my Galaxy was old and I loaded a lot of stuff on it.) My only hesitation with the phone is that it is so thin. But I got a cute purple hard case for it so it doesn't feel as fragile. Hopefully I'll still enjoy this phone a few years down the road.
To be a cool kid
I try really hard to not spend a lot of money on certain things. While coach sunglasses look super cute, they are also super expensive. Instead, I go to Target and get a pair of $5 cheapo sunglasses. They work just as well and it gives me more money to spend on video games or something. Maybe one day I'll splurge and get a super expensive pair of sunglasses. Just to see how different they are.
Pennsylvania Burlesque Festival
On Friday, I attended the Pennsylvania Burlesque Festival with my family. My cousin, Buster Britches, was performing so we all came to support him. I've never seen burlesque in person before. It was quite interesting. A lot of the acts were slow and sexy but a few were hysterically funny. I found that I enjoy the funny ones much more than the slow dances. I think I might try to find some more burlesque performances to check out without my family. I'd like to try to leave the "watching naked girls with my mother" weirdness at home.
Review: Warm Bodies
We actually went to see Warm Bodies on opening weekend. Life has just been too busy to write the review! So here it is:
Warm Bodies is a different type of zombie movie. Instead of being horror or action, it's a romance movie. R (Nicholas Hoult) is a zombie who wants more out of life death. He meets human Julie (Teresa Palmer) while her team is foraging for medicine. Despite his desperate need to eat brains, R saves Julie from the other zombies. Soon Julie notices that R is getting better. Somehow, his love for her has restarted his heartbeat and is turning him back into a human. And it's affecting the other zombies as well!
The previews for Warm Bodies were awesome. We knew right away that we needed to see it. And we weren't disappointed! There is a bit of action in the movie - Julie's dad, played by John Malkovich, is a general and prone to shooting things before looking at them - but don't expect it to be the main plot of the film. If you can still catch it in the theater, I highly recommend it. If not, buy the Blu-Ray or DVD!
Rings!
My little sister got engaged recently. As a result, I've been looking at various wedding items...including rings. (Yes, I know that I have no say in what rings they get. But I can still look!) I came across a site selling masonic ring. I never realized that these organizations had their own rings. It's interesting. (Though not as interesting as joining an organization called "Odd Fellows." That one is just plain weird.) I wonder how many members own similar rings. Hrm.
Not Philadelphia - Paris!
It is extremely cold here in the Philadelphia region. Like everyone else, I am pushing through the teenaged temperatures. My mind, however, is off on exotic vacations. Even though I know it is also super cold in France, my brain thinks everywhere looks like a movie. So instead of wrapping myself in blankets and thick layers of clothing, I am basking in the Paris sun. Soaking up the heat in the garden at one of the luxury paris vacation rentals, surrounded by gorgeous flowers and drinking mimosas. (I don't really drink but, hey, if I'm dreaming, I might as well go big.) Seriously though, I would like to go to Paris sometime. It is supposed to be absolutely beautiful. Anyone been?
A new look!
Those of you that have visited the website should have noticed a drastic change in our theme. The previous theme was a bit depressing so now it's a cute winter theme. The reason for the change? Girl Scout Cookies! My daughter joined Girl Scouts this year and we'll be selling cookies until March 3. If you live in the Reading/Pottstown, PA area, use the link on our website to order your cookies. Once we receive your order, I'll contact you to set up payment and delivery. Yay cookies!
Games?
Lately, I have been playing a lot of board or card games with my daughter. Most of them fall into the "geeky" category but I'm not sure if I should review them here. My family does play a lot of board games at holiday gatherings and whatnot so I might have quite a few to talk about. Would anyone be interested in reading board game reviews?
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! It's hard to believe that it's 2013. I don't really make resolutions but I'd like to move my fitness business forward this year. Not only would I like to get my own studio, I'd like to get my own sound system as well. I'm tired of relying on other people's systems. They end up not working a lot of the time and that kinda screws me. If I could find a nice portable sound system (while a dbx driverack would be cool, it's not too portable), that would be awesome. Here's to a good 2013!
