Home buying

I know a couple of people that live in the Alabama area. Actually, I think one of them may be looking for Alabama land for sale. Even though it can be difficult to own a home, it's always nice to have something that is yours. Renting is so expensive anymore. I know that our mortgage payment is less than the rent for any apartment or townhouse of a comparable size. Sure, it's more work but it's a lot more satisfying knowing that it's yours.

Game review: Polly Pride: Pet Detective

The hidden obeject game Polly Pride: Pet Detective tells the story of Polly, the owner of a pet shelter who also does a bit of detective work on the side. If you have lost your pet, Polly will find it for you! I thought that this "pet detective" twist to the hidden object genre was interesting. In each level, you have the opportunity to find a lost pet from one of the previous storylines. While it doesn't change the actual gameplay any, it does give the game a little bit more of a emotional tie. People don't like losing their beloved pets so it feels good to help someone, even a person in a video game, find their animals.

Light up my house

As I have said before, my husband and I are looking to fix up our house. Besides needing windows, we also need more light fixtures. Half of the living room area is lit pretty well but the other half is dark. While the darkness is good for keeping glare off the television, it makes it difficult to do anything else in that part of the room. You can't snuggle up and read a book over there. It'll be nice when we can finally use that part of the room for something other than just watching tv.

Getting in shape

I keep planning on working out and getting in shape. However, our house isn't big enough to fit any fitness equipment and it's too cold during the winter to work out outside. I've debated joining a gym but I can't decide if I'm motivated enough to take my lazy butt somewhere to work out after working all day during the weekend. It's not such a big deal during the weekend since we're usually home all day. During the week, though, we generally don't get home until at least 6PM. Usually it's closer to 6:30PM. Then I still have to eat dinner, help my daughter with her homework and get her off to bed. By then it's 8:00PM and I don't feel like doing much of anything. Working out shouldn't be so much work ^_^

Game review: My Exotic Farm

My Exotic Farm is a real-time simulation farming game. You begin your exotic farm with a single ostrich. It is your job to build a big farm with happy animals. I found this game to be very annoying. Since it is in real time, everything goes extremely slowly unless you pump up the speed. Once your animals are fully fed and happy, there isn't a whole lot for you to do except wait for them to get hungry again. You can resell the animals once they grow a bit but I kept having to buy expensive food for the more expensive animals so it was really difficult to get ahead. Personally, I ended up just buying a bunch of ostriches. They lay eggs that you can sell in the market. Granted, they don't sell for a lot of money but it's enough to keep your animals fed for awhile. But, really, the game was just too boring to keep my attention for long. I'd rather spend my time on The Sims.

How cool is this?

As we all know, most elderly people have trouble moving around. If they slip and fall in the bathroom, it can possibly be fatal. Many elderly move out of their homes because they are afraid of falling in the shower. A good remedy for this would be to get a bath lift. That's a battery powered chair that will lower a person into the bathtub. I think it's pretty neat. Things would have been a lot easier if we had something like this when my grandmother lived with us.

NaBloPoMo every month!

Back in November, I joined NaBloPoMo, National Blog Posting Month. While it was similar to the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in that it lasted for the entire month of November, NaBloPoMo has now gone monthly. Every month there will be prizes randomly awarded to those who write at least one blog post every day for each month. (Meaning, if you blog once a day for the 31 days in March, you are eligible to win March's prize.) I'm planning on taking part in this so be prepared for a lot of posting from me. Feel free to join too!

I hate the winter

I absolutely hate the winter. Besides the fact that it is way too cold and disgusting outside, my entire body dries out thanks to the dry heat inside. My skin gets all gross and flaky and my sinuses dry out so much they start to bleed. Now that the cold has really set in, my husband and I have put humidifiers in all the bedrooms. Hopefully, once we get some moisture into the air, I can get back to normal instead of looking like a dried out prune.
