If you have been with me since the beginning of my Christmas reviews, you will remember that in 2018 I banned the Marvista (or Mar Vista or MarVista) production company from my blog because their movies were so terrible. I have now found that most of these mediocre Tubi movies have been made by the same guy - Christopher B. Stokes. He tends to write, produce, and direct them, which means he doesn’t have a lot of people reigning him in when a bad decision is made. At least not all of his movies are bad. Let me tell you about Night Shift.

Deborah (Apryl Jones) is an out-of-work security guard who just found out she is pregnant. When her brother, Jimmy (Anton Peeples), asks her to cover his night shift as a security guard at a high end art gallery, she reluctantly agrees. What she doesn’t know is that a group of criminals are trying to steal the jewels from one of the art pieces she is supposed to protect.

Night Shift is a little uneven. There are slow parts where Deborah is just walking around doing nothing but then there are some actiony-type scenes too. Unfortunately, the actiony-type scenes tend to be a lot of standing around waving guns and yelling at each other. Yes, there are some other scenes that are done really well. It would be nice if there was a little more oomph to the action scenes. Something that would make me believe that Deborah is unhinged enough to hit someone at her previous job. If Deborah was a little more badass…a little more Gamora (from Guardians of the Galaxy) or Sarah Connor from The Terminator…this movie would have been so much better.
