Music review: Do As Infinity - Remember The Hill

Artist: Do As Infinity Members: Tomiko Van, Ryo Owatari, Dai Nagao Album: Boukensha Tachi (single) Release date: 9/5/01

English translation: It's all right, I haven't forgotten about That dream from then. I know that hill, that light, About how I shone there more than anything -- I'll walk straight ahead...

Continuing to sigh, shivering a little, I knew that reality Wasn't going to be that easy.

It's all right, I haven't forgotten about That dream from then. I'm sure there's no way I'll be satisfied If it's something I can easily get right away, A path that only I can open.

Even though it seems I'm pressured By loneliness and worries, I keep a balance that seems like it's going to break.

If I'm sad for whatever reason, And end up without confidence, I'll once again remember that day, And the hill that holds your promises... The day of that refreshing wind...

A storm of despair with rain striking down... A dream full of tears...

It's all right, I haven't forgotten about That dream from then I know that hill, that light, About how I shone there more than anything...

If I'm sad for whatever reason, And end up without confidence, I'll once again remember that day, And the hill that holds your promises... I'll walk straigth ahead... About the song: It's easy to tell why this is a B side song. While there are some interesting string instruments being used, the song is still boring. The chorus parts are drawn out while the verses use a normal pace. It leaves the song feeling a little uneven. If they had left out the slow chorus parts, the sound would have been a bit better. Though I think it would still have a bland feeling to it.

Music review: Do As Infinity - Wings

dai.jpgArtist: Do As Infinity Members: Tomiko Van, Ryo Owatari, Dai Nagao Album: Tangerine Dream Release date: 9/29/99

English translation: What's been the matter recently? You've been looking down Even your harsh language, which you were proud of, has disappeared Even if this world is just unfair, As for the weak, even the answers won't be found

On the nights the storm goes away, the sky is clearer than usual & the twinkling stars are blowing kisses to us

* Tomorrow is shining & the beat will stir up a miracle there We're together & time stops immediately We go beyond the horizon where the evening sun begins to melt

Let's throw away the excess baggage Let's just take the Gibson (guitar) If we can go willingly without choosing a goal, even the rusty fate will begin to pass

Even on the days of the preestablished harmony, it's better to throw everything to the shore, even if it's just the freedom in appearance

Even if the sparkling season passes by, let's hold onto the memories that don't change The fragments of the wish are in a dream You can grab them with a little courage

When you are tired of flying, it's better to rest your wings We know that you did your best

* repeat About the song: Wings was on DAI's debut single. It was rerecorded as Wings 510 for the New World album. This version of the song has a relaxed feeling to it while the rerecording sounds a lot more....well...studio, I guess is the best way to put it. The original recording has very simple instrument lines. The rerecording brings in more...stuff in the background. Both versions are very good songs. However, I like the simpler version better.

Music review: Do As Infinity - Get Yourself

doasinfinity.jpgArtist: Do As Infinity Members: Tomiko Van, Ryo Owatari, Dai Nagao Album: Deep Forest Release date: 9/19/01

English translation: Losing myself, I grope around in darkness... It's all reckless trial and error.

I wonder how everyone else is doing?

Let's get yourself -- Let it reverberate, your soul at its utmost limits. Try again -- Break that wall down again and again.

Getting what I deserve, being forsaken -- Changing myself now is better late than never.

Are we OK just being here?

Let's get yourself -- Scream until you break down and Change your way -- Head into the changing future from your past.

Let's get yourself -- Let it reverberate, your soul at its utmost limits. Try again -- Break that wall down again and again.

Let's get yourself -- Scream until you break down and Change you way -- Head into the changing future from your past. About the song: Definitely not one of my favorite DAI songs. It has a good sound but it's a bit strange. A lot of DAI's songs have this smoothness to them that is missing here. The song is a little on the jerky side which makes it difficult to get wrapped up it. This would be one of those songs that you put on when you don't really want to listen to the actual song but you need something upbeat to keep you going.

Music review: Do As Infinity - One or Eight

Artist: Do As Infinity Members: Tomiko Van, Ryo Owatari, Dai Nagao Album: True Song Release Date: 12/26/02

English translation: (Listen...)

...But you're still too dull. Look, you're still wandering lost, always wasted. You're back to being a whimsical lady -- [!!] Your ideals are great but still unclear.

Close your eyes -- try feeling it, This speed. Feel your dream -- there's no limits On that field.

Until you grasp victory, don't stop those legs -- Whether you sink or swim, do as much as you can. [1] Aim for your goals, Like the heroes on TV That you always watched.

It's gonna be crazy, that perverseness of yours... You're doing whatever you want again; it's all monkey business. Selfish lady, hurry up and stop crying A splendid life is reckless and OK.

Can you hear? The cheering Won't stop. Play the truth -- You're shining On that stage.

You don't have to mind rumors -- Whether you sink or swim, do as much as you can. Awaken a miracle, Like the heroes on TV That you always watched.

Until you grasp victory, don't stop those legs -- Whether you sink or swim, do as much as you can. Aim for your goals, Like the heroes on TV That you always watched...

...Awaken a miracle. About the song: Do As Infinity is one of my favorite Japanese bands. Sadly, they disbanded in 2005. This song is great because it has a very upbeat feeling to it. Of course, the lyrics go along with that. As the theme song to Japanese satellite station WOWOW's Europe Soccer show, the song drowns in sports references. The title of the song is a sports pun in itself. In Japanese, one or eight sounds similiar to ichi ka bachi ka meaning sink or swim. So you have a happy, upbeat song telling you to do your best. A great theme song for a sports show.
