When I started this project, I figured that I would be watching a lot of older horror movies on Tubi. But this is day seven and five of those are 2026 Tubi originals. I haven’t really looked through what the service offers so I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to watch brand new movies. Until we run out of stuff to watch, let’s see if Hive is worth our time.
Sasha (Xochitl Gomez) is starting her new job as a babysitter for a rich family. The mother, Camille (Tanya van Graan), has some rules for her daughter, Zailey (Victoria Firsova). No soda, no sweets, no playing outside. But Zailey talks Sasha into taking her to the playground to look for a lost doll. That is when Sasha realizes something bad is happening to all of the babysitters/nannies in the area.
I’m not going to lie, there are some very slow parts of Hive. I kept wobbling between whether this was a good or bad movie. Then the horror side really kicked in. Most of the movie is spent trying to make the kids seem scary. But they are only mildly scary. A little over halfway through the movie, you find out what is happening to everyone - the kids, their parents, and the caregivers. That is when the horror begins to set in. Now, the movie doesn’t get “scream your head off” horror scary. It does, however, give you that creepy feeling that shows like the Twilight Zone or The Blair Witch Project might give you. In the end, I found Hive fairly enjoyable. I just wish they could have made the beginning a little tighter to really bring the scares.
Rating: And they say candy is bad for you
