Love Again (2023)

I’m watching Love Again and up pops Celine Dion. I’m not completely sure why she’s in the movie. Her part is a little unnecessary. But whatever. I guess Celine Dion can do whatever Celine Dion wants.

Two years after her boyfriend’s untimely death, Mira (Priyanka Chopra Jones) is still grieving. Her sister, Suzy (Sofia Barclay), has finally convinced her to move out of their parents’ house and back into their apartment. Mira tries to take comfort by texting her late boyfriend’s phone number, which now happens to be the number of Rob’s (Sam Heughan) new company phone. Rob, falling in love with the mysterious texter, meets up with Mira and the two begin a new relationship. But what happens when Mira finds out about the texts?

So…this is a really boring movie. Mira spends a majority of the movie depressed. Which I understand but, girl, it’s been TWO YEARS. At least in Good Grief, Marc’s husband had just died. They should have made the timeline a little closer to his death to make it more emotional.

On top of that, Rob isn’t a very interesting person. He does everything with no real personality. There’s never a high or low to his emotions. It’s one big flat line. Dull.

Honestly, unless you are a giant fan of the actors or Celine Dion, I would say skip this one. Maybe mark is as Uninterested so it doesn’t show up and you don’t even have to think about it.

JDorama review: Tsuki no Koibito

Title: Tsuki no Koibito Broadcast dates: 5/10/10 - 7/5/10 Number of episodes: 8 Genre: Romantic Drama Cast: Kimura Takuya, Shinohara Ryoko, Lin Chi Ling, Kitagawa Keiko, Matsuda Shota Plot: Hazuke Rensuke (Kimura) is the president of an up-and-coming furniture company. His life changes dramatically when three women compete for his love. What is good: I liked the ending. What is bad: It took so very long to get there. Letter rating: C

This show made me absolutely hate KimuTaku for the first 5 or 6 episodes. Since this is only an 8-episode series, that's an awful lot of time hating the main character. He does redeem himself, of course. It just would have been nice to see that change start around episode 4 or 5.

Shinohara Ryoko is awesome as designer Maemi. She made me feel so bad for her character, even though she didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her. I think she totally made up for the crapfest that KimuTaku was.

Poor Kitagawa Keiko got robbed though. Onuki Yuzuki is completely a throw away character. She has no real importance to the show. Even when she tries to make big reveals, the information has already been given by another character. She's convenient but unnecessary.

Now onto Lin Chi Ling, who, in my opinion, takes up way too much time. I'm pretty sure her role was to show what a hardass Hazuke is with everyone, even those he claims to love. But all she really did was take away from the awesomeness that is Maemi. However, the interaction between the two women was nice. I guess that is one redeeming value.

This show absolutely depended on the actors and their characters. There wasn't a big plot to reign the characters in. If the characters failed, the show would fail as well. For the most part, the characters are annoying. It isn't until the last few episodes that anyone shows any redeeming values. I didn't think the show was horrible. It was just meh.

JDorama review: Densha Otoko (movie)

Title: Densha Otoko Translation: Train Man Release date: 6/4/05 Genre: Romantic drama Cast: Yamada Takayuki, Nakatani Mika Plot: A relationship between a pretty woman and an anime otaku blossoms after he saves her from a drunk man on a train. What is good: It really is a sweet story. What is bad: The television drama was better. Letter rating: C Overall: I think I might have liked this better if I hadn't watched the TV drama version of the story first. In the film, Yamada pulls off the geeky anime otaku better. However, I think that Ito Misaki was better as Hermes, the pretty woman on the train. This version of the story was very awkward. The main characters were understandably uncomfortable with each other but where the movie really failed was in the secondary 2chan characters. For example, there was a trio that kept comparing Densha's attempts at love with a war. It could have been a really great metaphor for the battle of the sexes. Yet it came off weird and unnecessary. While this wasn't awful, I'd rather watch the television drama any day.

Jmovie review: Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru

Title: Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru Also known as: I'm in love with my little sister Release date: 1/20/07 Genre: Romantic Drama Cast: Matsumoto Jun, Eikura Nana, Yuuta Hiraoka, Komatsu Ayaka Plot: Yori (Matsumoto Jun) is in love with his twin sister, Iku (Eikura Nana). He tries to forget Iku by sleeping with his classmate Tomoka. Now the twins need to choose between their forbidden love and a normal life. What is good: The dialog isn't too bad. What is bad: The extraordinarily long dramatic pauses. Overall rating: C- Overall: I knew little about this movie when I turned it on. I knew it was about incest between twins and that it starred MatsuJun and Komatsu Ayaka so I expected a decent dramatic movie. Sadly, I was mistaken. This movie is filled with extremely long dramatic pauses. All of the characters take a good 5 - 7 minutes to spit out one line of what they want to say to each other. Eikura wasn't very interesting as Iku but that may be a problem with the character and not the actress. I suppose if you are a fan of MatsuJun, you'll want to watch this movie. Just don't expect anything wonderful from it.
